Accessible multi-sensory planetarium shows for an inclusive experience.
Read below for options suitable for blind or visually impaired audiences, or other additional support needs. We have ready to book options and new research-driven developments.
Developments:
We need your help to create immersive and accessible educational experiences!
With our partners at Newcastle University, we are building an educational resource which will use sound to represent scientific data and concepts. These sounds would be used in enjoyable educational shows in the planetarium and in other settings. To help develop this, we are testing user experience of different types of sound. We want to know what you think so we are asking you to complete this anonymous online survey which will involve listening to sounds and responding to questions about the sounds. We encourage both children and adults to take part! The survey will take 10 - 15 minutes to complete.
To take part, visit the following webpage:

Audio Universe – Tour of the Solar System
Explore the Solar System through the power of sound! This show uses “sonification” to explore the stars in the sky, the planets of our solar system, as well as the Sun and Moon. The carefully chosen sounds vary in sync with the visuals to create a truly unique experience. Originally developed for blind and visually impaired audiences, this show is suitable for blind and sighted audiences alike, and goes down well with pupils with other additional support needs.
You can access the flat-screen version of the show here:

Developed back in 2021, the tour follows Dr Nic Bonne, a blind astronomer based at the University of Portsmouth, and Rachel Lambert (Newcastle Vision Team) in their sound-powered spaceship.
